The Nightingale Award for

Excellence in Human Caring

The Nightingale Awards event was founded in 1985 to honor nurses who best exemplify the philosophy and practice of Florence Nightingale, a 19th century nursing pioneer who epitomized the art of helping people toward their optimal health.

The State Nightingale Committee has restructured the award criteria for 2011 to encourage the nomination of nurses in a variety of practice areas.   The two categories of nominations are:

· Clinical Practice

· Administrator, Educator, Researcher and/or Non-Traditional Nurse Practice

·

Within each of the two categories, there are 3 areas for recognition:

· Advocacy (advancing a cause or proposal)

· Leadership (motivating others to work toward a common goal)

· Innovation (demonstrating creativity which addresses today’s challenges/opportunities

The Western Colorado Nightingale Event in 2011 will be held in Grand Junction, CO and feature the Karen Taylor Good as our keynote speaker.
