At
Colorado Mesa University, percussion
students enjoy opportunities to study
music in a multitude of styles and contexts. Our moderate studio size
ensures that you will receive ample individual attention, perform
frequently in a variety of ensembles, and study with a professor from
the very beginning of your college studies.
Private percussion lessons meet the needs of students studying at
intermediate to advanced levels. All plans of study are tailored to
each individual student, with the goal of encouraging artistic growth
in the student’s strongest areas and gaining complete
proficiency
in all fields of percussion. Instruction includes snare drum, keyboard
percussion, timpani, drum set, multiple percussion, orchestral
excerpts, and hand drum technique. All students, whether
majoring
in education, elective studies in business, performance, or liberal
arts, study with Dr. Darin
Kamstra, Director of Jazz Studies and Percussion, from the beginning of
their freshman year. Percussion lessons are also available, space
permitting, to non-music majors who perform in a music department
ensemble.
Monthly technique classes present basic to advanced technical concepts on all major percussion instruments, including snare drum, timpani, keyboard percussion, bass drum, cymbals, tambourine, triangle, Latin percussion, and drum set.
