Percussion Ensemble News

For the first time, the MSC Percussion Ensemble collaborated with the MSC Dance Department for a series of performances in April 2008. The ensemble performed Ilomba, an original work by director Dr. Darin Kamstra, and Imaginary Landscape No. 2 by John Cage, both along with dance choreography.

In November 2007, the percussion ensemble, along with several other MSC student and faculty ensemble, performed at the Colorado District 8 Honor Band in Aspen.

The MSC Percussion Ensemble performed a concert as part of the 2006 Western Colorado Percussion Festival. Selections included 4/4 for Four by Anthony Cirone featuring guest artist Dr. Andrew Heglund from the University of Nevada Reno, The Doomsday Machine by Michael Burritt, Ice Dance by Anders Åstrand, a popular West African piece called Bana, One Notch Higher by Bill Molenhof, and Teamwork by Lynn Glassock performed by the MSC Honor Percussion Ensemble.

On its April 2006 concert, the MSC Percussion Ensemble performed “An Evening of Music from Brazil and Beyond.” Selections included Mitos Brasilieros by Ney Rosauro, a traditional Brazilian Samba Batucada, Kapok by Darin Kamstra, A Latin Confection by Murray Houliff, and American Phoenix by Howard Buss, which featured MSC bass trombone performance major Daniel Morris.
