Links to English 131 and 132 are not available due to formatting, but see
Richard Berkey to discuss his interesting assessment projects for those
courses.
Here is an ongoing collection of links to handouts and sites that may be
helpful to understanding and considering our assessment:
1. The two
general education goals we are assessing for literature courses.
2. The two
general education goals we are assessing for writing courses.
3. A handout on critical thinking.
4. What the accreditation
team has asked
5. A somewhat recent AP article on the literacy of college students
that forbodes more assessment rather than less in the future.
6. A link to a listing of Chickering and Gamson's Seven
Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education . These
principles show up quite a lot in the assessment world and I think most of us
would agree that they make a good starting point for talking about what makes
good educational practice. In future days we may be more able to use
these as a means of examining what we do in the classroom.
7. The most recent rubrics used by the department to
assess ENGL 111 and ENGL 112
essays.
Eventually, this page will also contain our collected data, as well as relevant
action we choose to take based on the data.
English Program Assessment
1. The assessment report from
last year.
2. The assessment plan for this
year.
Spanish Program Assessment
1. The assessment plan for this year.
Mass Communication Program
Assessment
1. The assessment plan for this year.
Data from the Spring 2006 General Education Literature assessments
and from the 2006 Composition Assessments.
These are formatted as a saved Excel worksheet. If you'd like a
prettier, and probably more useful, copy I would be happy to e-mail you the
Excel file.
If you have ideas about assessment or would like to contribute information
(handouts, links, etc.) that would be useful to the department as we consider
our assessment program, please contact Kurt Haas at khaas@mesastate.edu or
